Our key mission is changing the norms for Deaf employment.
Universal problems that exist for the Deaf:
1. Deaf people who work in hearing environments face a constant lack of communication access
2. Corporations often ignore or avoid complying with ADA laws, by, for instance, finding excuses to not to hire Deaf folks as a means of avoiding the cost of interpreters and other accommodations
3. Deaf and hard of hearing people often face discrimination due to perceived lack of intellect, frequently triggered by a hearing employer hearing the Deaf accent
4. As a result, Deaf people frequently end up reliant on government assistance
5. Deaf people are frequently taken advantage of in the employment world
6. Deaf and hard of hearing people rarely achieve employment success, leading to a lack of consistent role models across most fields
7. Deaf people rarely experience employment equality.
Answer:
1. DPS’s community center will guarantee equal communication access by virtue of an ASL environment.
2. DPS’s community center will comply with all ADA laws, above and beyond those that cater to Deaf needs.
3. DPS will ensure that all candidates qualify for employment opportunities through job training and training across all positions
4. DPS will provide 60 jobs to Deaf individuals, guaranteeing fair pay and allowing them to leave government assistance.
5. DPS will treat everyone equally, regardless of [dis]ability.
6. DPS will train any Deaf or hard of hearing individual who desires new challenges or who seeks increased responsibilities. DPS will always try to elevate our people to the next level.
